Tom Jones
Tom has a broad and busy intellectual property practice. His experience covers the breadth of intellectual property law including patents, trade marks, passing off, design rights, copyright and confidential information. Tom has particular experience in FRAND licensing, jurisdiction disputes and telecoms and pharmaceutical patent work.

    Jurisdiction

    • MediaTek v Huawei [2025] EWHC 649 (Pat): challenge to the UK court’s jurisdiction to hear a FRAND dispute. The first case to consider FRAND licensing at the chip level.
    • Playtech v Realtime [2024] EWHC 3264 (Ch): challenge to the UK court’s jurisdiction to hear a claim for breach of confidence / misuse of trade secrets.
    • Kigen v Thales [2022] EWHC 2846 (Pat): challenge to the UK Court’s jurisdiction to hear a FRAND dispute. The first case to consider an implementer’s claim for a FRAND valuation.
    • Nokia v Oppo [2021] EWHC 2952 (Pat): challenge to the UK court’s jurisdiction to hear a FRAND dispute. The first case to consider the relevance of parallel FRAND determinations in other jurisdictions.
