Richard Meade QC and James Abrahams appeared for Nokia in the latest trial in its long running, global patent dispute with IPCom. This trial concerned IPCom’s ‘268 patent, which was a divisional of IPCom’s ‘189 patent. The ‘189 patent had been the subject of a previous trial before Floyd J [2009] EWHC 3482 (Pat) and appeal to the Court of Appeal [2011] EWCA Civ 6, in which Nokia (again represented by Richard Meade and James Abrahams) has succeed in obtaining the revocation of the patent (Daniel Alexander QC appeared for IPCom in those proceedings). In the April trial, the main issue where whether the patent was invalid for obviousness and added matter. Floyd J heard the trial over 2 weeks in April 2011 and reserved judgment.
